    Have you tried a drop test on it? While running, pull each spark plug wire one at a time to see if there is any change in engine performance.
    Could impeller blades be curved the wrong direction?...

    Could it be warped carb bowls, or had they gone to metal by then? The plastic ones will definitely warp. It won't show a gas leak, but it will let air get in when the fuel pump is pulling fuel.
