Re: Buying a take off manifold

With a 1973 engine it sounds like you have a pre-blister boat. The Unifiltes are built extremely well and are worth fixing up. Enjoy.

Re: Buying a take off manifold

I just looked at ours on our 1972 Uniflite 318s and the exhaust manifold casting number is the same as the one on your boat
(PLV1 6672) so that would indicate they are interchangeable. The only...

Maybe this one will be bigger.
In short the ones you are thinking of buying look like the 1973-1986 risers to me, however the final decision is yours as you have to part with the cash.

Re: Buying a take off manifold

It looks like there are two models of exhaust manifolds. One from 1966 to 1972 and one from 1973 to 1986. The casting number that you have in your picture is 6672 which is off of a

Engine size in CID and year of engine manufacture would be helpfull.
  8. Re: Starboard engine surges, powers down and will not pass 2400 rpm.

In my 1972 31' sport sedan with twin 318s and Paragon Vee Drives, the port engine is standard rotation, and the starboard engine is reverse rotation. Another way to

  9. Re: Starboard engine surges, powers down and will not pass 2400 rpm.

What engines are you running? Do you have one standard and one reverse rotation engine, and if so make sure the firing order is correct for each rotation. Black plugs indicate your fuel system is not...
  10. Re: Starboard engine surges, powers down and will not pass 2400 rpm.

My 318 did that when I had a vacuum leak on the intake manifold. Listen for a hissing sound around the carburetor and make sure all of the plugs are in the intake manifold and the hoses are on the...

    Re: Paragon Vee Drive

A follow up. A noise was being generated from the same Vee drive area at low RPM so we had a vibration analysis done to determine where the noise was coming from but due to the solid construction of...

    Re: Exhaust Manifold

This site amongst others sells them if you want to buy online. If you want to buy over the counter any marine dealer that sells Sierra parts will be able to get them for you.

If you have gone through the steps correctly then it's likely that your file size is too large. I'm not 100% sure but I think the cut off for this site is around 1MB. There may be other ways, but I...

I'm afraid that is about as far as I can go then. Surface rust is not an issue, and should the condition be worse it is impossible to us know the condition of your centerhead without actually...

    Re: Replace intake manifold?

The cast iron 4 bbl intake manifolds on these engines are heavy and not prone to rusting out. The bottom side is bathed in oil so rust free (picture 1). What you are seeing is the heat damage to the...

Our 1972 318 is plumbed this way. Hopefully the repower goes well.

If your system does not have a heat exchanger it may be plumbed this way.

Re: LM 318 running rough over 2500 rpm

According to my manual the base advance on post 1971 marine 318s is 5 deg BTC.
The centrifugal advance is added to the base timing as follows.
    0 deg at 275 RPM
    7.5 deg at 475 RPM
    6-8 deg at 550...
