    Re: Oil seal help

I've only done two, but they were successful. Here are the simplified steps (it is a tricky job):
    -Remove the prop.
-Remove the carrier bearing nut (a ring in the gear housing with notches): It...
  3. Re: finding the missing impellor vien in the exhaust?

    Makes sense.
  4. Re: Impeller re-installation update/issues

Don't want to assume anything; was the water above the intake screens? You might need to remove the lower unit again, and check to see if the water tube is lined up, as Minuteman said. It may take a...
  5. Re: finding the missing impellor vien in the exhaust?

We know; it's really a pre 1983 Yamaha, Mark; it doesn't ressemble a Mercury at all.

  7. Re: Thermostat-is it time to replace it?

Just to see if the pump is working? You'd have to put the thermostat cover back on, right? If you've decided to replace the thermostat, why don't you wait until that's done? If you run it with out a...
  8. Re: finding the missing impellor vien in the exhaust?

I'm not sure, but if I remember right, I don't think that the bottom bolts for the exhaust cover can be removed while the power head is still in the lower cowl. I would see if you get a good stream,...
  9. Re: Thermostat-is it time to replace it?

I recently replaced one that tested good, but found that if the center part were rotated to a certain spot, it would stick. If you end up needing one, here is the Yamaha number: 656-12411-01. It may...

    Re: 40 HP Mariner Question

It's up to you, what it's worth. I fixed one up. I still couldn't tell you if it was worth it, or not. I am happy with it. It's probably made by Yamaha. If so, the parts are expensive and hard to...
  14. Re: 83 2stroke 50 HP Mariner Hard to Start and Stalls out at Idle

[QUOTE=ehlien;435494] Also , I do not have an engine manual. Does anyone have pictures or diagrams or a service write up for the carbs on this monster.

    Time to get one, man.
  15. Re: white milky substance coming from behind prop

I use to get a lot of "slop" drain out of my exhaust that no one could explain. I changed my base gasket and it stopped. Mine was a more oily looking than milky. Also, what kind of oil are you using?

I just wanted to report back for anyone who might benefit from this thread.

    Re: Stainless Prop Recommendation

I don't know about that theory, but if you are serious about propping your rig, you can get a product called Tiny Tac, if you don't want to spend much money (a stainless prop is going to cost you...

    Re: 6o hp 1979 Mariner

Yes, we're American, but we have lots of your mates with us. From your numbers it looks like it's a '79, and yes it is a Yamaha built motor. Keep testing stuff; coil ect.
