  1. Re: Where can I find centrifugal advance springs?

Ricardo, Thank you for the detailed information. Tell me more about a variable reluctor. One of the manuals did instruct me to use a screwdriver to cause the system to spark and I did. I did that...
  2. Re: Where can I find centrifugal advance springs?

Update. I found another owner with the same distributor and he has the same springs. One is made with thicker wire than the other so since mine are the same, they are probably stock.

    I don't know...
  3. Re: Where can I find centrifugal advance springs?

Thanks Ricardo. I would only be installing the stock springs but I get your concern. If this drastically changes the advance curve and I get detonation, that could really damage the engine. I have a...
  4. Re: I cannot locate the identification marks on my OMC

    The firing order matches a 5.0 L or 5.7 L
  5. Where can I find centrifugal advance springs?

Where can I find centrifugal advance springs? This is for a 91 Ford 5.8 L with a Prestolite ignition. I'm not getting much centrifugal advance. I start at 10 Deg BTDC at Idle and it is supposed to...
  6. Re: 1992 OMC Sterndrive shifts hard from forward and reverse into neutral

I'm working on getting my 92 Four Winns to shift properly as well. I have 1 91 motor the 5.8 L but it is very similar. The link that you included is very helpful but the procedure it included only...

Re: When centrifugal advance springs get old

The seemed to move freely but I sprayed them with WD40 and worked them back and forth. Then I greased them. They do seem to allow 10 deg of advance at the distributor which would result in 20 deg at...

When centrifugal advance springs get old

When centrifugal advance springs get old, do they get stiff and therefor not advance the timing as much as they should or get soft and advance too much /too early (at a lower rpm).

    My guess is...
  10. Re: Does a Breakerless ignition ever require a ballast resistor?

I decided to make a splice with connectors that I can unplug. This way I can run the motor with the ballast resistor taken out of the circuit and then just plug it right back in and compare. I'll...
  11. Re: Does a Breakerless ignition ever require a ballast resistor?

The coil is original but the resistor may have been added. I am trying to follow the factory manual. The ignition schematic does not specifically show a ballast resistor but would it?

    This link...
  12. Does a Breakerless ignition ever require a ballast resistor?

My 91 5.8 L Ford motor on my Four Winns came stock with the Prestolite Breakerless Inductive Distributor (BID) ignition.
I'm testing the coil to address some idle issues. I may replace the coil and...
