    I think the phrase is 'had a warranty'....

    the lack of electrical function could be due to badly corroded battery cable(s)....especially is the water sat in the hull for months....

    FWIW, don't ever pull a battery cable off with the engine running...NONE of the electrical items like the results.

    As far as a rebuilt goes, any alternator shop should be able to do it 'same day'...

    without knowing how big and old the outboard is and who's cell you have its hard to say what the issue is...the EPA mandated 'closed systems' a while back but only for 'newer' engines....

    My guess is it acted up again....and replacing the fuse wiggled the wire enough (at the break) to pass enough current for the pump to run....and...

    If the engines were properly '...winterized and fogged", the engines should be fine...

    I'd be concerned about the remaining fuel in the tank as even good stabilizer won't last that long.

    Its supposed to be brown...."milky" usually suggests water has entered the gear case.....

    Would also be good to verify the timing advances w/ RPM...

    telfon tape is a no-no....you can use the paste if you want - I prefer locktite PST...a little is adequate....

    have an old towel /newspaper /paper towels (or drain pan) depending on you...

    a whole lot of oil pressure....

    a shorted sender unit....

    the wire to the gauge has a short to ground....

    I'd suggest removing the wire at the sender and turn the key to RUN....the gauge...

    I'd suggest you try american outboard motors for anything that old. google them and get the contact info...they are in Maryland...
