    Re: Newbie stuck transmission

Should be fine to pull the box for servicing with boat in the water. Check shift linkages and oil levels first. May also have a place where you can check the oil pressure.

    Re: Tamd41a (or b)

Could be an exhaust leak or blowby if the blowby is recirculated via the air filter on that engine. Blowby will be only while exhaust leak is usually a bit dryer.
  3. Re: Tilt/Trim making me pull my hair out, PLEASE HELP.

Use a volt meter to check the output to the blue and green wires with the trim switch activated. also check that there is a solid earth on the trim motor earth wire. Does the relay (solenoid) click...

    Re: Tamd41a (or b)

Looks like an inline blower, but is it actually wired to power, is it even blowing the right way, and with the crushed pipe in pic 2 it probably isn't doing anything anyway. Where exactly on the...

    Re: AQAD40B overheating

Aftercooler or Raw Water pump would be my next checks. Aftercooler is 2nd only to the Heat Exchanger for engine cooling. Air leak before the RW pump is another possibility. I assume that the hull and...

Re: Yanmar ZT370 all kinds of problems

I dont know the yanmar drives but I do know the mercruiser drives. They probably wont last much longer unless they are treated very kindly. The issues with the mercruiser drives and maybe eith your...

    Re: KAMD-42 Low oil pressure

As above, check the pressure with a manual gauge before doing anything else. The oil pressure warning light coming on is a worry though. You need to check, but a lot of that vintage Volvos have a...
  10. Re: Yamaha Electronic Control, I Cant figure out how to increase RPMs while in neutral ??

I don't know the controls you have, but on a number of other brands you hold the station select switch down as you move into gear and that prevents the gears from changing as you advance the...
  11. Re: Tilt trim motor runs both directions but motor doesn't budge

Make sure that you really are full of fluid with the engine tilted right up.

    Re: Battery isolator setup question

Use an ACR or VSR (same thing but different name from different brands). Blue Seas, BEP are two common ones. You will lose a lot of charge if you use diode isolators due to the losses in them. There...

    Re: TMD40A Volvo

    Dirty hull or props?
    Raw water impellers?
Raw water pump internal wear or end plate wear or leaky seals?
    Blocked pickups or strainers?
    Thermostats?
    Any aftercooler on that model?
  14. Re: 225 hp volvo penta diesel will it drive my hatteras 32

Boat is heavy but yes a pair of 225's will get you up on the plane I would expect. What engine model are they?
  15. Re: Volvo D4 260 loss of top end dies off idle. Hard start in winter

That 'hunting' when the Kompressor hands off to the Turbo is a real common Volvo problem. I have dealt with it on a couple of engines and it was always the exhaust side vane tip clearances due to...

Re: Anyone chip their Volvo Penta diesels?

You can bump the HP up, but once you have 80,90, or even 100hp per liter of displacement from a relatively light engine you can't expect it to last like a traditional diesel. If longevity isn't a...

Re: Volvo Penta D6 400A Stern Drive 2011

5.5l making 400hp is higher than I would normally want for a commercial boat, but it depends how you will use them? I put 5.9l 370hp engine sin my charter boat and then derated them to 330hp so I can...
  18. Re: Volvo D4 260 loss of top end dies off idle. Hard start in winter

Was it a new or used turbo? You can check a turbo by measuring the gap between the vane tips and the exhaust housing which is where you get problems on a lot of Volvo turbos on out-drive boats. Other...
  19. Re: Volvo D4 260 loss of top end dies off idle. Hard start in winter

No the turbo won't make much boost without a load. Can you check the boost levels during a sea trial? The kompressor kicking in and out is usually due to low turbo boost. The kompressor is belt...
  20. Re: Volvo D4 260 loss of top end dies off idle. Hard start in winter

So you still have the issue you described with the new turbo? So you are still not making boost from the Turbo? Have you checked the aftercooler for blockages? It sounds a bit like you might have an...
