    Re: Volvo Penta 200

200 is the series of the stern drive. Nothing to do with engine size other than back then, 4 bangers were, I believe, most popular. Would not have put a V8 in a boat that small. Ricardo has best...
  2. Re: Volvo penta transom raw water intake replacement fitting

Convert to thru hull (bottom) with shutoff and avoid future issues. Red valve on top is for garden hose for winterizing and flushing my FWC engine.
  3. Re: 1973 888 mercruiser water seperator fuel filter vent hose routing?

    Re: Volvo Penta 200

Likely a 4 banger in the 115 to 130 HP range, however, lifting the hatch and counting works . If you can, there is a number on the drive on top which ends in a letter. That letter indicates the...

Have you tried a different T'stat ( at the same temp)?
  6. Re: rpm gauge not working after new engine installed?

Power is often purple, ground is black. Not necessarily visibly loose connections, but poor crimps to the terminals or corroded connections. A voltmeter would come in handy to assure that there...
  7. Re: rpm gauge not working after new engine installed?

No... did you check that power and ground connections at the tach are OK?? The grey wire is the "signal" wire.
  8. Re: rpm gauge not working after new engine installed?

Per Post #4.... each gauge is connected to +12 and to ground at the panel.
  9. Re: Engine mount lag bolts not holding after being repaired.

Typically, that fix works well for thru bolted holes and for light radial loads ( snap fasteners). Axial (threaded) loads not so much.
  10. Re: rpm gauge not working after new engine installed?

Gauges reading pegged usually means poor or missing ground to gauges/panel. That would also stop the tach from working. The standard wiring practice from factory is to daisy chain the power and...

Re: 290 shifting into reverse problem

My drive lost the rubber "boot" where the cable enters the jacket some years ago. A generous application of waterproof grease on the rod when in FWD has kept it free. When my boat is in the dock not...

Re: 290 shifting into reverse problem

Make sure that the shift cable is correctly clamped to the drive at the point it enters the drive housing.

Re: And yet another 7.4L MIE issue

Current ones seem to be ok. did not realize they were SS. What/when is electrolysis an issue? Is it a problem in fresh water cooled straight inboard applications?

  20. Re: How milky can oil get if ujoint bellows pops loose?

Given the design of the AQ series, sealing of the drive is accomplished by a seal at the point that the drive shaft enters the drive housing, not by the bellows, although running long enough with a...
