  1. Re: Good Reference for General Repairs/Maintenence VP AQ280 Outdrive

I spent approx 24 years doing AQ series work exclusively, and have posted many times re; the How-Tos regarding this type of DIYr work.
I would suggest doing a MarineEngine dot com forum search in...

    Re: Hard to find

The year and model of the engine/stern drive would be very helpful.
  3. Re: Can a 4.3 engine be removed and replaced without pulling the omc outdrive?

As for the automotive S-10 engine, the automotive camshaft will very likely be incorrect for true Marine Engine use.

Also, regarding any re-sale value...... the old Stringer Drives are not...

  5. Re: Thru Hull Exhaust. Do it? Don't do it? Opinions?

Chris, I think that Bob is suggesting that the raw/exposed transom core material (the material that is now exposed from the hole-saw cutting process) needs to be protected!

    Keep in mind that your...

  7. Re: '91 430/DP-c raw water inlet hose type

Ted, have you inspected the aluminum water neck fitting?
These are a wear item and need to be replaced routinely.
NOTE: some C drive water neck fittings are plastic!

    With the boat on the...
  8. Re: '91 430/DP-c raw water inlet hose type

Ted, I’d suggest using an OEM hose.
The Volvo Penta seawater pump is engine mounted! Anything upstream from this pump is “suction”!
The automotive corigated hose will not be collapse proof against...

    Re: AQ 280 replacement parts.

Other than the long hub propeller requiring the internal threads (for the center locking bolt) and the AFT-most part of the 2-pc spinner, there is no AQ series lower gear unit short hub/long hub Prop...

In the thread from 2011 (that also posted in), you mention DP E 290.
I know of no such drive model!

Perhaps try posting some good pictures of this drive.

    Re: 1978 Formula restore thoughts?

By posting to this duplicate thread, we are essentially keeping it in the forefront, when we could actually just flag it, and let the mods delete it.

    Re: johnson pump

The outer hub/ring can and will occasionally slip from its original position on the inner hub.
However, if so that would not affect the inner hub’s face and/or any run-out to the face...... meaning...
  15. Re: Thru Hull Exhaust. Do it? Don't do it? Opinions?

    That is certainly an option.
However, with the type of "Elbows" that his Volvo Penta system is equipped with, if more Elbow height is required, he can add the Spacers/Risers underneath the Elbows...

    Re: johnson pump

OK..... I just re-read your post #1. You suggest that the old pump also wobbled.

I would now suggest that you remove the new pump, pull the center bolt and the 3 pulley mounting bolts and remove...

Make sure that center bolt’s large washer fits properly into the pump’s mounting flange bore...... and make sure that it’s the correct washer for the bolt’s OD.

If the large washer is off-center,...

    Re: johnson pump

Yes, that is an excessive wobble!

Your V belt pulley should have three mounting holes, equally placed, and two raised portions that serve as alignment dowels.
The Alignment Dowels create the need...

The Johnson Crankshaft Pump can be indexed in one of three positions, of which only one is correct!
Do you have it indexed correctly?
