    Re: 2001 evinrude ficht

Get it hooked to a computer. Might be a 'low voltage' problem.
  2. Re: Better & best spark plugs for trolling & WOT for long running periods ?

As long as you stay away from any plug with 'R' (resistor) in the specification, you should be ok.

    Re: Cooling system

Quite normal. For those engines having a weep-hole at the water tube to cool the outside of the inner exhaust tube, it might be even more.

Re: 30 evinrude pop & spit while idleing

Check that engine reaches correct operating temp on BOTH cylinders. Use an IR temp gun and check the color/conditions of the spark plugs. A 'cold' cylinder will be a lean cylinder and it will sneeze....

Re: Tiny Fuel Spray From Block

If once started to leak in the crank-case split, dismantle and re-seal!
Start the engine and use some soap-spray at the area and check for bubbles.
If crank-case seal is leaking, most likely the...

    Re: Motor Trim Question

No lever, all 'automatic'. When turning the engine to reverse position, the reverse lock #35 should slide and be lifted on a curve on the leg. This way the hooks will be pushed down and grip the pin...

    Re: Motor Trim Question

That is a forward-neutral gear case only. It should work the way that the hook only grips the tilt-pin when engine is turned around for reverse function and not when running forward. You should be...
  10. Re: 1975 johnson 25 HP gear part number question

As answer to your 'dumb' question:
2-lugs gear/dog must be replaced with 2-lugs. Ig going 3-lugs from 2, you will have to change forward - reverse and dog.
  11. Re: 1975 johnson 6hp powerhead gaskets advice needed!

Sealant or no-sealant on head gaskets is an ever on-going discussion. However it all depends on the gasket itself. The original types did not have any form on 'sealant' applied, and the use of...
  12. Re: 1975 johnson 6hp powerhead gaskets advice needed!

Contents of sets may vary between suppliers. If doing a complete re-seal, that should even include the crank shaft seals. Use Sealing Compound on all screws and gaskets (unless gasket is stamped 'no...

    Re: Weak telltale pressure

Before moving on further down the leg, remove the exhaust cover and gaskets and check for leaks and corrosion. Leakage/blockage in the channels here will affect the tell-tale pressure.

Re: Prop won't spin in forward or reverse

Re: Prop won't spin in forward or reverse

Draining the gear oil will probably give you an indication.
  16. Re: 1954 evinrude 7.5 broken gear lever shift

You have to remove the powerhead to get access to the vertical shift rod connector.

Re: Water pump rebuild kit question

Technically - no. However dip it in salt water for 5 minutes, leave it in a barn for 17 years - things might get stuck!

Re: Water pump rebuild kit question

Prop (and hub) should be removed from time to time to lubricate the shaft and check the drive pin.
