Hi, Need more info. Why was head removed? Overheated? Is the oil pan off? How do you know water goes up and down? When pressurized can you turn it 4 or more times with out locking up?

Hi Scott Free, Did you put #2 permatex or rtv on the splines and under the coupling nut?? If not it will leak. Also if the seal riding surface on the coupling is worn you should replace it....

Harry, Without seeing the piston it's a tough call, however pitting can cause hot spots and preignition ending in destruction of engine. you will probably find pitted valves in that cylinder also....
