Re: Yamaha 150 1988 Head Gaskets

    Just change the gaskets.
Then if the water seeps?? apply some sealer on just the edges.
Then get a straight edge and check the gaps before you reinstall.

From the pics, they look pretty good....
  2. Re: Yamaha 2-stroke, 200 hp V-6 from 1987 correct compression

That's very possible, the early OMC had motors with lower comp #s too.

I've found if you run in salt water (even a little) you should change the head gaskets every couple of years.
    The salt...
  3. Re: Yamaha 2-stroke, 200 hp V-6 from 1987 correct compression

The Yams I tested are 2 stroke v-6's.

What gauge you using? a screw in or the one you shove in the hole?
    Harbor freight tools are junk.

    Your results: 1st test. 3 at 94 3 at 87 that's 6-7%...
  4. Re: Yamaha F225 Dropping RPM intermittently

Drain the VST, check for water( I know you said it's all new)?

Could be: bad plug, plug wire, coil going bad, stator, bad connection.

When asking questions, please include the year, model, and...
  5. Re: Yamaha 2-stroke, 200 hp V-6 from 1987 correct compression

They don't really post the comp. figures because the results can vary so much with the
    equipment and the procedures.

The important thing is the results are all within 5% of each other.
    My gauge...

    Re: 1997 120 Force won't start

    Don't look.
    Just change the impeller.
    The kit includes everything needed.
    What weep hole?
The majority should come from the hole in the prop, the port on the back might have some, might not??...

    Re: 1997 120 Force won't start

IF??? the bowls full then there should be gas drawn in as the motors turned over.

    A little more history?
    Did it ever run?
You do something to make it stall?
    New parts?

    You say new plugs,...

Re: EGR valve EGR 2005 200hp hpdi

    Thanks for the answers.

Talked to the owner, he said that when it rains, and he touches some metal
in certain spots, he gets shocked.
    So I'm guessing there's a short somewhere?

EGR valve EGR 2005 200hp hpdi

Was cleaning the carbon from the EGR valves on the twin motors.
Both joints or plungers were solid and closed off.

The question is the stbd. motor when the key was off the EGR had power(12v) to...
  12. Re: 2010 Yamaha MSH 15 hp 2 stroke Starting Trouble

Always include the model and serial # when asking for help.
They made a bunch of different models.

Try undoing the drain and squeeze the primer and see if fuel drips out of the carb?
    You check...

    Re: 2002 Yamaha F115 Hours

You'll need to take it to a dealer who can hook up a computer to the motor.

Unless you got deep pockets and can buy the programming for yourself :)

    Re: Water separator filter

Most Yams I work on have a filter on the motor,
It's clear and has a float system that show if there's water in the filter.

Add the boat, motor info to your signature.
  16. Re: 200 HPDI excessive oil use and idle problems.

    Re: Stiff steering

    Then heat only the top.
As you work it, hit the bottom with ice to keep the grease hard
and try to make the grease flow up.

In severe cases you might have to add more zerks.
    One at the top and...

Re: Yamaha c60tlrw prop shaft removal

That's a special tool used on outboards.
You can find them on eBay (yamaha bearing carrier retainer wrench)
Just make sure you get the right size.

    Re: Stiff steering

    It should move fairly easy.
There's a grease fitting on the mid section.
However the grease in there is probably turned hard.

You can try adding new grease and use a heat gun to warm up the old...
  20. Re: Outboard Force does not charge the battery

When first starting, the motor might not charge the battery.
You might have to rev the motor past 2000 rpm's to activate the charging system.

OR?? the regulator maybe the stator is bad?...
