    Re: 290 serial number

Remove the propeller, remove the ring anode and wire brush the AFT end on the prop shaft bearing carrier.
The numbers 1.61 should be stamped into the carrier.

For the s/p drive, 1.61:1 is the...

    Re: 290 sp rebuild

Yes, if no history of the PDS bearings having been replaced, you most definitely want to replace them.
A failure at this area will be catastrophic and very costly.

  5. Re: 95 4.3lx electric choke conversion question

    Just a suggestion:
You can also power the heating element by using a N/O Low Oil Pressure switch, and by connecting the N/O LOP sw to a 12 v power source.
The element will only receive power once...
  6. Re: 95 4.3lx electric choke conversion question

Keep in mind that as soon as the ignition switch is ON (engine started or not), the heating element begins to warm the helix (thermostatic bi-metal spring) and opens the choke chimney.

    Re: 290 sp rebuild

Robert, when doing this service work, there is no need to remove the entire drive.
However, since you have removed the entire drive, when going back together, remove the transmission and install...

    Re: 290 sp rebuild

Drain the gear oil and perform a Pressure/Vacuum leak down test.
While testing, turn the input gear, the prop shaft and move the eccentric piston in both directions.

    Ditto replacing the water...

First Mike, you have Hy-Jacked Shellback's thread.
It would be best to start your own new thread on the topic.
Perhaps title it: "Question re; 318 Chrysler RH Reverse Rotation wrist pin offset"

    Re: 318 rebuild advice

    Agreed.
There is a reason for the markings.

Most 318/360 engines (or most any engine for that matter) are standard LH Rotation.
As each piston undergoes it’s power stroke, the entire connecting...

    Re: AQ280PT drive shaft/double bearing

One procedure may call out for a center-force...

    Re: AQ280PT drive shaft/double bearing

NOTE: the reason for the grease cavity "pre-fill" (while spinning the PDS), is to ensure that no air is left trapped inside of the cavity.
We want a full cavity so that any future grease is able to...
  20. Re: Sierra electronic distributor for 318

They show it as a Mallory YLM579AV replacement.

The M in the YLM = magnetic, of which means that it's a VR unit.
    VR = Variable Reluctor.

I will take VR triggering over photo-eye triggering...
