    Re: 2009 150 efi

300 hours while maybe "typical" sounds "low" to me. The motor is 10 years old - that is 30 hours a year average - 4 or 5 days of cruising around during the year would equal that. So the hours sound...

Re: Help with year/model for Mariner 30ML

You have a 1985, Yamaha built Mariner, "A" model, that was (factory) a rope start, long shaft. (as far as I know there was only ever an A model in the 30 - the 40 had A, B and C models - maybe they...

Re: Ready to sink the boat

If I was guessing I would start by thoroughly testing the stator. The symptoms, which could be cause by a few things, are also indicative an issue with the high speed (coils/bobbins) on the stator....

    Re: Another serial number question

That serial (production number) makes it a 1977 model.

Since just about all the on-line parts sources do not list Cdn number - BUT, fortunately the host of this website does.

    The link is here:...
  6. Re: Please help!! Not running mercury 8 hp outboard

Test the compression - 90 psi or over is good

Test for spark - one of those spark testers from a discount auto place is sufficient

CHANGE the sparkplugs - replace them with NGK's only, don't...

Re: 1990 25 hp mercury does not charge

Look for two yellow wires coming from under the flywheel.

Many from factory simply went to an isolation (block) - a small strip on the block with a couple of screws (one for each yellow wire). If...

Re: ID 9.9 Mercury 110 and troubleshoot

Canadian Serial indicating a latter half of 1972 production date.

For on-line part look up a US serial (production number) of 3263263 will give you "mechanically" the same motor (you don't often...

    Re: Best manual?

The factory manuals are expensive but they are the most (technical) and specific to your motor.

The Seloc's are less technical and may gloss over some things or combine a number of...
  11. Re: New to me Mercury 9.9hp Outboard - bunch of questions

    You are correct.

The new tanks do "not" have the little (screw style) vent in the cap - they (new caps) are supposed to work kinda like a check valve - allow air in when fuel is being (sucked)...
  12. Re: New to me Mercury 9.9hp Outboard - bunch of questions

So you have a mid 90's two stroke 9.9.

It sounds like a fuel issue - possibly clogged the carb up once it got running because of old gas in the system. I would check for spark to rule out an...

    Re: 25HP Mercury power tilt/trim

A serial number would help but there "used to be" (no longer available through Merc) an add on "trim kit" (merc part 850700A08) that sold for almost $1000 so was not a popular "add-on". You may be...

    Re: 2008 mercury 50 ELPTO 2 stroke

The new prop and piece of skeg missing might indicate a hard strike on the lower unit - may have bent the propshaft or buggered up some of the guts. I would rule that out before moving on to engine...
  16. Re: Mariner 50HP model year 1996. Total Weight ??

You mention 50 and 60 horse.

    Here's the 50 and 60 horse numbers:

200 pounds (50 horse), 215 pounds (60 horse) if it's just the long shaft electric start,

    204 pounds (50 horse), 219 pounds...
  17. Re: Mariner w15 . Need waterpump impeller . Cant identify serial# for impeller needed

Quicksilver is the Merc (OEM) brand.

Sierra is an aftermarket company which usually sells parts for a little (to a lot) less than Merc. Most Sierra parts are "as good as" OEM an in a couple of...

Re: Need help identifying year of 90hp Mariner

If you want a factory manual you can order one from any merc dealer (part number 90-13645-2) or you could get a Selocs manual (from a site such as this forums sponsor) -...

    Re: 1999 mercury 8 2 stroke stalling

Especially if it has been sitting the carb is most probably all gummed up. Your symptoms are typical of a dirty carb.

It should be disassembled, well cleaned and possibly rehabbed (as opposed to...

Re: Need help identifying year of 90hp Mariner

0A731673 was the first production number (serial) from the Merc plant in Mississauga Ontario in 1988.

So you "minimally" have a 1988 model and more probably a 1989 since the plant was being scaled...
