    Re: 89 Mariner 115hp L4 rebuild

Good point, Racer. Just that "solid state" components age even faster when exposed to huge temperature differences, vibration, moisture, etc. Maybe I'm stupid but my advice is out there if anyone...

    Re: Driveshaft, !5HP 2-stoke, '89 Evinrude

I don't remember an o ring by the 89 model year. I looked at some newer shafts on my shelf. Just juice it up with some anti seize. I keep a couple of these around just in case because I have seen...
  3. Re: Installing an electric starter on a 1977 25 hp evinrude

Got nothing to do tonight so wanted to check in. I have a couple of these units here if anyone is interested. Have done electric start set- ups back into the 60's on 18 and 20's too. Recently found...

    Re: 89 Mariner 115hp L4 rebuild

WSM is very good too. You should be able to upgrade to the Wiseco pistons also. Wiring will continue to deteriorate, so a new harness is a good consideration. If original ignition components are...

    Re: Fitting Temperature Sender

Thermostats run 145 so if everything is correct you should see temperature in that area. Your gauge may not show numbers but a cheap infrared gun is fun to own. 20 bucks at Harbor Freight. I use it...

    Re: Fitting Temperature Sender

Is it more commonly used when referring to ohms resistance in general? Consider for instance the impedance of a loudspeaker. So theoretically you are correct AC is measured in impedance ohms...

    Re: Fitting Temperature Sender

Most temp gauges are similar impedance for marine applications. Is there any info on the gauge so you can find the impedance? If the sending unit is the wrong impedance, you could ruin the gauge.

Re: Maybe Anyone Can Start Any Engine

Definitely an excellent idea, nice job. How is the response so far? However, you should have listed it on the Mercury Mariner because just between you and me, Johnson/Evinrude start a lot easier...

Re: Voltage spikes on Mariner 115 Hk -93

Mr Olsson is detecting normal "pulses" as we might call " the nature of the beast". I have a 115 Merc, my personal rig of 12 years, which is quite similar. The adapter is not used on my rig as I...

    Re: johnson 70 esl 75e

Bingo....pull nut and look. Wish you would have mentioned that right off the bat. Can also check: Bring pistonTDC and check mark on flywheel. Takes about 2 minutes.

Re: Voltage spikes on Mariner 115 Hk -93

The adapter is behind the rectifier so therefore ac current right? It's on the spark side anyway......besides that, it's only connected with the switch box and NOT the charging system. But maybe you...

    Re: Connecting Rod Fastener Question

This is an interesting thread so I figured I better chime in, and add my two pennies. I have built several Mercury's that use the aforementioned connecting rod nuts. Granted I am not building them...

Re: Voltage spikes on Mariner 115 Hk -93

Your picture reminds me of those crazy Thailanders with a giant turbo diesel on a stick mounted on a surfboard flying down the canals. Check out a video or two. You think that WE are nuts? Huh! Those...

Re: 1987 Evinrude 70 - All Three Carbs Leaking

I completely agree with Mr. Scott. The tests will cost you nothing and properly direct you in which direction to go. Spark test to 7/16" nice crackling blue white. Test in the throttle position where...

Re: Voltage spikes on Mariner 115 Hk -93

So it has little or nothing to do with the alternator supplying the 12 volt charging system?

    Re: Starting problem, Mariner 50HP 1992 2stroke

Okay, I get it, thanks for clarifying.
To think that Kiwi claims it still won't fire after even a 1 1/2 hour rest, (see initial post), don't you think it would have cooled enough to spark once again?

    Re: Starting problem, Mariner 50HP 1992 2stroke

Okay, say for instance you keep pumping the squeeze bulb and force fuel past the pump diaphragm and into the vacuum supply port. Does that trigger or activate the oil pump to meter oil into the carb?...

    Re: 90 hp not accelerating

It's puzzling that the rpm's stay low now. There should be nothing allowing that to happen, especially since you only ran with the rope for a few moments as the hub was slipping. I have never heard...

    Re: 90 hp not accelerating

Yes. You will need to rehub or replace prop. Dah! It happens to all of us. One time my younger brother Steve caught a dangling rope in the prop of a 15 horsepower and it just about pulled the motor...
