Re: Mercruiser 5.7 - Wiring Question

On my 5.7MIE, the black wire with the ring connector goes to a screw (stud) ground on the block and when grounded, activates the low oil/overheat audio alarm. The quick test for this function...

  5. Re: Mercruiser 350 low WOT error code 42 w/video

There is always the possibility that the engine is over propped. Often folks want more speed and go up a couple of inches in pitch, which often results in the engine not revving up to where ...
  6. Re: GM Hydraulic lifter preload adjustment question

Running engine issues ( for me at least)
    1) Messy bilge from oil splash
    2) Exhaust manifolds (center rise) need to be loosened up and slid away from block by at least 1/4 inch in order to remove...

Fortunately, the "Page Down" button allows me to go past posts I'm not particularly interested in and the criticisms thereof.... : -)

Re: 502 Merc Build, MPI or Carb, what Cam?

Further kghost... Actually, I don't think that MPI is more reliable. There are too many parts in it that can fail... and while solid state electronics are theoretically more reliable than...
  9. Re: GM Hydraulic lifter preload adjustment question

IMHO.... If you do several of these procedures a year as a mechanic, then you probably can do a satisfactory job with the two stop, However, if for most who post on this site, this will be the one...
  10. Re: AQ225D with Pertronix HEI Dpark plug gap

The heavier set of weights will give you more advance. Marine engines normally use a less aggressive advance curve. Stay as close to factory stock as possible. Lacking a "sun distributor"...

    Re: 290 tilt

In my limited experience, a bent vice rod is more likely caused by someone trying to use the lift out as a power trim while underway ( at more than a dead slow idle).. Defective ( or hot wired)...

  13. Re: Merc Catalystt Manifold - Hoist Need? Stuck Rubber Fitting? New O2 Sensors Needed?

AHEM!!!.... Think you posted on wrong forum :-) BTW... Radio Shack ( one of my favorite stores for quick project parts) is long gone :-( These days, I use Digikey and Mouser.
  14. Re: 1987 Chris Craft model 196 Limited fuel tank issues

Often if you can reach the fuel sender, it will afford enough access to the tank innards to do a decent job of getting out the last bit of crap. Drain tank a s much as
    possible via the ...
  15. Re: Best Volvo engine/outdrive combination, Dream List.

For a 21 ft cuddy, engine size will depend on displacement ( weight) as well as deadrise ( how steep the V of the hull is)... the deeper the V the better it will handle rough water but the steeper...
  16. Re: Starting Battery Spec. Volvo Penta 4.3GXI-J 2007

My preferred use of dual purpose batteries is as the second battery in a single engine boat, where not only does that battery perform well as a "house battery" but works well as an emergency start...
  17. Re: Starting Battery Spec. Volvo Penta 4.3GXI-J 2007

Not true! At least for major reliable brands. I've done tests. While a "dual purpose" marine battery is not a 100% of a start only battery, nor 100% of a deep cycle battery of the same size,...
  18. Re: Volvo Penta MID 128 error code helps me

This is a diesel engine, you will get better response if you post in the Volvo Diesel engine forum, which is further down the main page.

.....mmm if I understand your sequence of events correctly, it sounds as if the starter motor engaged WHILE the engine was running ??? Likely stalled the motor and jammed the starter.
