    Drain the gear oil into a clean container (if it's clean, it can safely be reused).
    Remove the shift mechanism.
    Look to see if the shift shoe is broken.

    You will need 3 new OEM O-rings.

    It sounds like you are describing suspension fork hinge pin removal.
    If so, be very careful. These pins are soft, and will expand if you drive against them with a steel punch.

    The cylinder base pins are removed hydraulically with grease gun pressure.

    See your OEM work shop or service manual for the procedure.

    Regarding the two cap screws for the helmet pin........ make darn certain that the correct length cap screws go back in.
    If incorrect (as in too long) they will break the the aluminum...

    DO NOT weld anything to the PDS! The PDS is machined from hardened material, and heat may damage it.

    Wrap some copper or brass shim stock around the PDS splines.

    1... it may be stubborn due to rust/corrosion at/in the Borg Warner splines. Try shocking it forward with a brass hammer.

    It's doubtful that the work to the drive would have anything to do with this.

    By the way, with the SP-A upper and a 290 DP lower, the gear oil will be GL-5 or equivalent.

    FYI.... the smallest suction breach will prevent any seawater pump from pulling in water.

    You can use a shop vac on the suction hose that connects to the pump's inlet fitting, and apply shave...
