Carbon build up evinrude 115

In the process of fixing a leaking head i find the pistons have a consistent carbon buildup.

Should I work to remove or leave alone. Since iI have the heads off is there any issue and how would this be accomplished.

This is a 1992 with best guess 400 hours total run time.

Seems to run fine and no issues getting to 5500 rpm. Open to any thoughts...

Here is another close up pic of the piston, both have the same amount and pattern of build up

Normal.----No need to do anything.-----Heads all warp.----Resurface it before installing the new head gasket.

Good to hear, once everything is back together, after head is resurfaced would anyone recommend a treatment like seafoam?

OMC Engine Tuner. Follow directions on the can.

I recommend to my customers to use either the XD50 or a good quality oil and carbon fuel additive such as Carbonguard or Quickleen....The XD50 has the carbon cleaner mixed in.

2x's on this.... Stop using cheap wally world oil in your engines....

thanks for the recommendation, so if using XD50 no need for additional carbon cleaner or should you still add additional

Start running some CarbonGuard in the fuel a couple of months before you plan and storing it it....
