honda BF50 tell tale

Howdy folks,
I'm getting a little tired of having to clear out my tell tale every time I'm in the water. I have a 1997 Honda BF50 and the pee hole is just miniscule. I run the motor in salt water and between weeds and crud, a day doesn't go by where I'm not pulling out the hose and cleaning the outlet.
I read some threads, don't remember where, that suggested doing a mod and upgrading the water tube to something wider. Someone suggested part #19313-ZW4-H00 so I gave it a whirl. After pulling out the old water tube (nipple connection to the head) I pushed some weed eater line through and moved it around. I cleaned the female inlet of any salt residue and installed above nipple/water tube and the stream is now thicker and stronger than ever. It'll be a hell of a challenge clogging this thing up.
The above is in case someone is frustrated with having to constantly clean your tell tale.
I included the link to the honda part below.

No need to stress over a tell tail, it doesn't affect the cooling of tge engine and alarm and guardian will kick in in the event of an overheat

Well, while Ian is right (usually is)....it's just an "indicator" that basically let's you know, at a glance, the pump is moving water ....and nothing else....
I still prefer to have mine clear and working for that purpose.

So, I appreciate your pointing out that, apparently, the later model (2004 and on) fitting is bigger, allows more flow and fits the older engines.

Thanks for passing that along.

I also think that any additional flow it diverts from entering the engine block passages is likely small enough that it won't adversely effect engine cooling.

Happy boating!

Thank you for the detailed response, Jgmo.

That last part of your response was what I was looking for albeit, I should have asked that in the original post, sorry.

Mods, while easy to do may not necessarily have a good impact on the performance of the motor. I didn't think it would change that much but if anyone has done the mod and experienced negative impacts, it would help to know.

Thank You again.
