My first thought is more of a question really....
.....is it actually going into limp mode or could it be that it's possibly dropping a cylinder intermittently?
Check your emergency stop and ignition switch.
Check all connections to the ignition coils.
If that seems OK and connections are clean and tight,
I suggest trying a new set of NGK spark plugs making sure that they are properly gapped and each plug boot has a thin coating of dielectric (tune-up) grease around the inside edge to seal out moisture.
I have seen spark plugs be bad when new right out of the box and cause problems. Likely because they've been dropped or mishandled. It's really the cheapest "guess" you could try as far as throwing parts at the problem.
Other items that might cause similar symptoms might be:
Fuel tank vent not staying fully open or clogged.
Fuel line quick connect not properly connected and latching.
Accessory add-on water separator not functioning or leaking.
Poor fuel quality.
If it won't screw up consistently, that makes it extra difficult to diagnose. As I'm sure you probably already know.
If it is going into limp, it should reset and run ok...albeit temporarily...after shutting down briefly. That could be an overheat condition and that might be a thermostat sticking. They too aren't always reliable even when new.
Hope you find it.
Good luck.
thanks anywayYeah,
I hear you....super frustrating.
But, I gave you some of my best guesses.
I stole the phrase NEW stands for Never Ever Worked because it's true. They leave stuff loose at the factory sometimes.
I even opened a bagged, brand new carburetor float bowl one time and it had a bunch of the casting sand from the foundry packed inside the passages!
Hard to believe but it happens.
It could even be a loose wire connector or a bad ground. But finding something like that is a tedious, time consuming effort.
Hopefully one of the other guys here has better ideas. There a several very smart and knowledgeable members here.
WILL DO THANKS FOR YOUR HELPTest run with another tank and hose.
