using a VRO as a fuel pump

i know you can use the VRO pump as a regular fuel pump and use premix. i know to disconnect the wiring to the vro and diconnect the oil intake and plug it at the vro. my question is this. on my other motor i have 2 older style pumps inline. the pumps are hooked up to the 2 pulse fittings on the crankcase. do i need to use 2 pulse fittings for the VRO? or do i plug one fitting? and hook the other pulse fitting to the VRo?

When I go to pre mix from a vro, I cap the oil line where it comes into the motor (at the cowling) That is all that is required. like you said disconnect the vro wiring and you are ready to go premix.
(If you are putting your motor back together, set the vro up on the motor just like you are going to run the vro with oil and gas) and then do it like I said up top.

It appears that you're speaking of two different engines, somewhat confusing. However, a VRO only has one pulse fitting so it can only be hooked up to one crankcase pulse fitting.

ok i worded it wrong. the cranckcase has 2 threaded holes where 2 pulse fittings will fit. right now they are both empty. ill plug one and put a fitting on the other. does it matter which gets the plug and which gets the fitting? oh and whats the best thing to use to plug the oil line?

Use the VRO pulse connection closest to the VRO.

Oil line.... Cut line, insert bolt/screw, secure with tie strap.

ok i have another question. my VRO from my 1987 150 sounds like theres loose parts inside. i have a VRO from a 1991 175. i know they are 2 different part numbers but if im using the VRO pump as a fuel pump to pump premix....can i use the 1991 VRO on my 1987?

Hey Dawgs,

you can use our parts drawings to confirm that but here is a premix pump that replaces all vro 3 cylinders engines and up Pre Mix Kit but would recommend staying with a VRO if possible we have discounted our VRO for this season.

Hey Dawgs,

I will try and keep my answers slanted to a parts answer. So I will say -no- but.... we all know there is more than one way to do things.

Supersedes and variation do not always work from newer -to- older the VRO is one example however the newest VRO pump sold is a "kit" to accommodate all applications.

If you are using it as a fuel pump, I don't think it matters what pump you use. If you are going to use anything but the latest model universal pump with the oiling function intact, you need the correct pump. The calibration of the variable oil function depends on the pulse strength from the engine. The pulse strength varies by engine displacement and design.

I have a 1991 evinrude 70HP 2 stroke outboard. I have disconnected and capped the oil line for the oil injection. Do I need to do anything to the fuel pump? Or will it run fine on pre mix as is with the oil line disconnected and capped?

Jeremy,
If properly capped the fuel side of the VRO pump will work fine. However, keep in mind you are using a 33 year pulse driven pump that uses flexible rubber components to provide fuel delivery. Why not just replace it with a new single chamber pump that was used on the pre-VRO engines then you know it's all up to snuff?

Non-VRO Pump for 70HP

Thanks for the help! I’ll do that!
