As you can see I lost most of the housing, not much to weld! Should I buy just the housing and use the old internal parts, or look for a new lower unit? The prop blades are just bent, buy may crack if I try to straighten them.
Yesterday, I hit a rock(s) at 4 mph and broke the lower unit housing, skeg, and two blades on my aluminum prop. I was able to motor to the ramp at 3 mph with only minor vibrations. Should I replace the whole unit or buy just the housing? Or just what is my first step? Turbodog
My grandfather said to always disconnect the fuel line and let the motor run out of fuel. I say that leaving fuel in the carbs and bowl will keep atmospheric moisture from coroding the jets and keep the gas volatiles from causing varnish buildup. What is the best practice, nowdays?
Seems to me that by wire brushing off my trim tab zinc, of the oxidation, it will refurbish the sacrificial surface area and allow you to continue using it. That's what I've been doing and I've had the same trim tab since 1997. Anyone else do this? Honda 45 Outboard.
