    1986 Crusader 454 - heads off, should I do anything with the valves?

    I broke some very rusted exhaust manifold bolts, so both heads came off. Original engines, boat has +/- 1,600 hours, but this engine is .040 over so was re-built at some point, but don't know when. Has been running fine, appears to be firing fine, though compression is on the low side...

    Can anybody tell me what this spherical doohicky is in my fuel line???

    It's on the way out of that crappy canister fuel filter on the way up to the mechanical fuel pump. Is it an anti-siphon valve? Both engines have one. Thanks.

    Thanks to everyone for some great advice and ideas! If the ports that I mentioned are not for a heater of some kind, then are they just available for some other type of cooling arrangement? I've attached a pic of the ports in question (stuffed so no critters get in). These were capped off...
