My 25 hp 4 stroke Merc (1998, carbureted, Big Foot --- great so far) is the first 4 stroke outboard I have ever owned, so I have never had to change oil and filters on 2 stroke engines over the years.
With 4 stroke motors, should the engine oil and filter be changed BEFORE winter storage...
I asked some of this same question just the other day, but I provided incorrect model information (a number I got from the top of the engine). I now know that this was not the serial number, so the one response I got may also be incorrect. Let me try this again with the correct serial number...
1. Is there a way to determine approximate production year from its' serial number, which is BEBE-1000935 ?
2. Is this engine serial number within in the range of those which had block cracking problems?
Thanks in advance for any help.
I recently acquired a 1998 25 hp carbureted 4 stroke Mercr, serial number OG735981. Runs good, needs a prop.
In shopping around for a prop, I see occasional references to "Bigfoot", which I know has something to do with drive gear ratio (but I don't really care about the details). All I really...
1987 15 hp Johnson just came back from the shop for an ignition problem that I could not successfully resolve myself. Haven't even run it yet, but I know that it went into the shop with two (new) QL77JC4 plugs and came back with two (new) QL82YC plugs. I cannot find QL82YC plugs spec'd for any...
I just noticed while working on a 1991 6 hp Johnson (J6REI) that the word BELGIUM appears (in all caps) directly under the model i.d. sticker.
I know where Belgium is and I know that it's a long way from Illinois where I assume (maybe incorrectly) this engine was originally manufactured...
Not sure how the previous owner somehow managed to "misplace" something of this size, but I have not had any luck locating a cover for this motor.
I have come up short searching assorted sites and sources, eBay, etc. Any suggestions?
Why are no "Enduro Series" (models beginning with letter "E") ever listed for parts anywhere?
A 2007 motor is certainly not ancient, but I don't see any "E" models of any displacement listed in any parts source anywhere. Explanations or thoughts?
I am considering buying this motor, private sale. Runs good for now --- but every motor needs maintenance, repair and parts. As near as I can determine, this "Enduro Series" may reflect motors manufactured for export from Japan to somewhere other than the U.S. That's just a guess on my part...
