That's good information to know, thank you.

J115, 1981 Stalls out when throttling into gear

Testing compression is of course good and not too hard to do (unless the first tester you rent is bunk like in my case), but for all the suggestions of compression testing, I can't remember seeing a post where low compression turned out to be the problem. I've of course not read every post in...

J115, 1981 Stalls out when throttling into gear

I was just trying to share the easy fix I found a few years ago. You're right - different engine, different deal. With an engine as different from mine, are there not any arms or cams that are advanced/retracted when shifting from neutral to forward/reverse?

J115, 1981 Stalls out when throttling into gear

I had this problem with a '93 Evinrude 150. Something easy to check is the position of the cam roller arm in neutral. Remove the sensor cover (probably) to see the cam roller arm. (Pic 1) Pic 2 shows where the cam roller should be after shifting back into neutral. It should touching or almost...

'93 Evinrude 150, dies in gear

The reason the situation looks different between the photos is because the sensor cover is removed in the first photos, and replaced in the second photos. It is attached with 3 bolts.

    Sparking ground wire

Today I hooked up the boat to the truck for the first time this year. The trailer lights didn't turn on. The ground wire had been glued to the trailer tongue when I bought it, and it always worked so I left it. I wiggled the ground wire and it came loose. I touched it to a few different spots...

2000 15hp 4stroke Evinrude wont stay running unless primer bulb is used

This is how I do it with my non-Apple phone, and assuming you have already some photos in your Gallery. -Click the circled icon shown in the screen shot. -Make sure the pop-up window has the "From Computer" tab selected. -Click "Choose File" and select the photo you want from your gallery...

'93 Evinrude 150, dies in gear

I thought I should post about what solved my issue of stalling when shifting into gear. It was a stripped screw on the spark lever. It caused the roller to not stay in contact with the throttle cam. So, when shifting from neutral into forward (or reverse) the roller was just way too far away...

Roller arm screw - should it tighten?

Thanks, Faztbullet. Mine's not where it needs to be at all. It's an inch away after shifting back to neutral from forward. Mine loos like this. I think this is going to solve my dying-when-shifting issue.

'93 Evinrude 150, dies in gear

Thanks for the response. I was reading through the link and sync procedure in the manual, while looking over the components on the motor. When I got to the "Spark/Throttle Pickup Point" section, I realized how far away the roller was from the throttle cam. I'll attach a photo. I shifted from...

Roller arm screw - should it tighten?

Hello, I have a 1993 Evinrude 150hp Intruder V6, VE150GLETG. The roller arm on the throttle linkage has a screw. Should it tighten? Mine just spins like it is stripped.

Can't remove port temperature sensor. Forget about it?

I've determined the starboard temp sensor is stuck in the closed position. I want to check out the port sensor, but it's stuck in there pretty good, and I'll probably have to break it to get it out. That wire can only take so much tugging. Is there any way to test if it's still a functioning...

    Is this throttle plate okay?

I think a lot of cams might have a mark, judging by how many write-ups and videos I've read and seen. But maybe this Evinrude doesn't, or it's just worn off. My arm's roller is pretty far away from the cam at idle, more like a full inch. Here's a photo. The seating of the screw that I circled...

    Is this throttle plate okay?

I know you're right about having a shop look at it. I've been in over my head for a while now. I was wondering if this disconnected brown wire from between the #2 and #4 cylinder had anything to do with starting. It was disconnected and stuffed back into the sleeve when I got the engine. Maybe...

    Is this throttle plate okay?

After staring at the linkage for a while, I loosed this screw (see picture) and the port plates closed completely. So I tightened it back up. Hopefully that's all that was needed.
