Can I lift boat by ski pole?

Hi, can an inboard be lifted with a crane by the ski pole? It is a 1960s Ski Nautique with Chrysler 383m. Seems to be a strong lifting point, or will the rest of the boat tear away from the stringers?

    Oil leak on Chrysler M383

Hi, there is oil coming out from under the rubber cover, which is supposed to seal the hole for timing inspection above the flywheel. This rubber cover is cracked and perished so no surprise, however, is oil then normally going to leak from here or do I have a problem? Such as leaking crankshaft...

Chrysler 383 motor and prop questions

Hi, I am looking at getting a boat with inboard Chrysler 383 motor. Seller says compression on all cylinders is good, starter good. This means I can check the compression when I get there! He says it just needs a rudder and hanger bracket. What is a hanger bracket? Flange box? Is a rudder...

    Float level confusion.

Hi, I have a 1979 175HP Black Max. When I pump the bulb before the first start of the day, fuel comes out of the carbs, all of them, as if the float levels are incorrect. I checked the service manual and it states the when I hold the carb bowl upside down, the float should hang 1/16th or 1.6mm...

    Motor mounted too low?

Here is a picture of the mounting, as you can see there are many holes from a previous motor, and lifting this motor by 2 inches will still require two extra holes for the bottom bolts. I always trim it all the way down, trimming it up at any amount will not eliminate the rooster tail. Here...

    Motor mounted too low?

Hi. I believe my motor is mounted too low. When I fitted it, I thought it was correct, the bottom of the boat is level with the cavitation plate in my opinion. I have a high spray of water behind the boat, so bad that I cannot pull someone on skis. I checked previous threads and everyone states...

Hi, my 1979 blackmax has a bad stator I believe. The service manual indicates a max of 6,2k reading between red and blue, but i get intermittent readings that are higher. sometimes more than 100k. The red and white to blue and white reading is a steady 6,2k. I read that it is advisable to buy...

Most common cause of intermittent spark loss?

Hi, my 175HP Mercury Black Max, 1979 model, runs great most of the time. Sometimes it just loses power, then runs well again after taking it easy on the throttle for a few minutes. Yesterday it didn't want to start after the third run, and after some time started but smoked. The problem now...

    Idle speed stabilizer required?

Hi, is the idle speed stabilizer required on an outboard? What happens if you don't trust it and remove it? Does the motor idle rough but still run? My motor is a 1979 Black Max 175HP. Thanks for assistance.

Trigger voltage on Mercury Black Max 1979?

Hi, anyone know what the voltage on the brown wire is on a 1979 Black Max, 175HP V6? This is the wire going to the tachometer. I want to build my own digital tachometer, so this is why I need to know this value. Thanks for any assistance. Peter.
