Mysterious Milky Oil - Not Risers...

I think you posted this same question over at the Hull Truth forum and I responded there; looks like you have a cracked or rotted through cyl head, it can be fixed if the lower end (block & rotating assembly) is still in good shape, but you want to verify that first. That is a pre-vortec 4.3 V6...

2004 merc 350 mag mpi high temps on new dry joint manifolds, one thing after another with this boat

Also watched your vids, I have a couple of suggestions: 1) it is much better for the impeller to use proper muffs, than to run it in a trough as you are doing in the vids. An inboard impeller set up is not designed to pull water up into the drive, it is designed to work with water filling the...

Usually you will not see much water if any at all coming out of the prop at idle speed when you're running it on a water hose on land, but for sure you will see water coming out of the idle relief ports which are under the transom mount.

2004 merc 350 mag mpi high temps on new dry joint manifolds, one thing after another with this boat

Well for some reason it appears that your exhaust elbows are getting enough water but the manifolds & risers aren’t. IIRC on this Merc warm manifolds system the elbows always get water but the manifolds don’t get flow till the thermostat opens. So the elbows will feel cool but the manifolds will...

2004 merc 350 mag mpi high temps on new dry joint manifolds, one thing after another with this boat

I'm guessing that Merc changed the exhaust to the dry joint exhaust because leaking manifold to elbow gaskets was a common source of water in a cyl. Maybe not a big problem in freshwater but in salt water it can be. So they separated the water flow and the exhaust gas flow with that new design...

If the manifolds & elbows were clogged I wonder if the water distribution housing is too; I’d check it for clogs. Also did you measure raw water volume flow? How about Bravoitis? They are known for a fitting in the transom mount that restricts raw water intake.

    Mercruiser 5.7, Uneven compression

Ideally you'd do a leak down test to see where you're losing compression, a good Chevrolet small block should be at least at 150 psi, on my 4.3 V6 it tests out between 160-170 psi. Just guessing the cyls that had water could have sticky exhaust valves, but it could also be corrosion damage to...

Any E10 (Ethanol) problems you are aware of on older engines?

Also on a boat that has not used ethanol fuel there may be varnish deposits in the tank and using E10 May clean these deposits out which can clog filters for a time so be prepared for that.

    Outdrive for sale

If you post up the gear ratio that will help also what engine it was for. The earlier Cobras came with a smaller lower unit for the 2 four cyl engine options. If that’s what is was that doesn’t work for a V6 or V8

Got a question about remote oil filter kits…

The fact that’s there’s no separate bypass valve listed suggests that the standard adapter with the 11 psi valve is what was used; when there was only a remote oil cooler but again I’m making some assumptions here. I was really just trying to figure out what the OEMs did with their remote filter...

Got a question about remote oil filter kits…

My thought was that if Crusader didn’t change the bypass when only adding a remote filter then it wasn’t necessary for me either which is what you both & the people who sold me the kit felt. I guess Crusader thought when you have both a remote filter mount & an oil cooler it is necessary to...

Got a question about remote oil filter kits…

https://macombmarineparts.com/pages/model-454-454-c-i-d-7-4l-remote-oil-filter-assembly part # 2 is the bypass valve , when you google this part number you find it is a 20 psi bypass valve the engines with no oil cooler just the remote filter set up don't list this different psi bypass valve...

Got a question about remote oil filter kits…

I did some more research to see how the OEMs set up their remote oil filters.... Merc's accessory kits don't appear to include a different bypass valve I also looked at a Crusader catalog, they don't either for the engines that have only a remote oil filter On engines that have both a remote oil...

Got a question about remote oil filter kits…

I asked the guys at Michigan Motorz & the said it’s not necessary to change that bypass valve. They sell a lot of remote oil filter kits with their turn key engines. I’d think if there was a problem with oil not getting filtered they’d hear it from their customers sooner or later…
