Poppet Valve question, 94 Yamaha 115.

If memory serves me correct, I remember reading somewhere that the poppet valve opens only when the engine is at higher speeds (because of higher water pressures from the water pump) and it dumps the water out through the overboard exhaust pictured below. The if at high speed, water is not...

Manifold Nipple Leaks Excessive Oil 1983 60hp

My neighbors 1983 Evinrude 60HP E60ELCTB always has a mess of black dirty oil that pools on the front of the engine below the carbs. It's a mess. The oil looks like it is coming from the intake manifold hose that goes to the base of the carburetor silencer. I only see that lone hose going to the...

    Amphenol Connector Tools Hack

If you need to replace or fix an Amphenol connector, the tools to do it, three screw driver handles tools, cost like $80 as a set. I think the average engine owner might never use the tools but once, so they just replace the Amphenol connector with a different connector type that they can easily...

Force 5hp Cowling Starter Rope Outlet Modifications?

The starting rope wrapping pictured in the prior posting slips off after a few pulls, so, I changed it to this wrapping below, and it does not slip and it is easy to take apart (basically a knot with the aluminum piece inside the knot:

Force 5hp Cowling Starter Rope Outlet Modifications?

Cutting the cowling - I measured the stock handle and it would have to be changed to a smaller one or else the cutout would have to be bigger than the rectangular vertical surface where the handle rests now. Moreover, after cutting we'd have to deal with water getting in there. And, cutting is...

Force 5hp Cowling Starter Rope Outlet Modifications?

Anyone ever seen a picture of a 5hp Force colwing where someone modified the rope start outlet so you can take off the cowling and put it out of the way without having to take apart the rope handle? Has anyone come up with a better solution than having to take the rope handle apart?

Electrical Experts Advice - Stator Replacement?

I have a 1990 Evinrude 70hp E70TLESB that it looks like the stator needs replacing, since it failed every test. The sensor coil on the other hand, hopefully, has just a bad connection. What does that Sensor Coil blue wire A do and how do I trace it. I need advice form the electrical system...

    Bad Synch & Link Adjustments 1990 70hp

The other stator tests they have in the manual requires a peak reading voltmeter, I am awaiting delivery of an Electonic Specialties 640 DVA Adapter, so I can also do those tests with my digital multimeter, to double check everything.

    Bad Synch & Link Adjustments 1990 70hp

I followed the instructions in the manual for the ohmmeter test on the stator assembly (see below picture) and got 350 ohms on the first test, well below the required minimum of 480+- 25 ohms, and on the grounded test I got 32ohms on both A&B, which should have been 0.00, so it did not pass...

Here is all it says about adjusting the thumbwheel on the Throttle Cam:

    Bad Synch & Link Adjustments 1990 70hp

Nowhere can I find anything in the manual for my 1990 Evinrude 70hp 3 cylinder that mentions the timing mark degrees required, or having to test it with a with a timing light, or that the adjusting of the Throttle Cam thumbwheel affects the engine timing. I do find the situation explained for...

    Bad Synch & Link Adjustments 1990 70hp

Do you mean loosening the locknut and adjusting the thumbscrew on the Throttle Cam? If so, I already did mess with it.

    Bad Synch & Link Adjustments 1990 70hp

I'm trying to finish my friend's 1990 70hp 3 cylinder so he can sell the boat, and I have run into a problem with the Idle Speed and Synch and Link adjustments, here it is: On the water, I had to set the idle speed at the maximum the idle speed adjustment screw would go in, in order to get the...

    1960's 70, 80's Engines still going. What about 2000's+ 4 strokes?

I see tons of postings here about 2 stroke 1960's 70's, 80's engines still going strong. I don't think the 2000's+ 4 strokes will last anywhere near that. I mean, for what little most people use their engines, with Winter, and only weekend or Sunday time, a 4 stroke engine is not getting any...

SprayMax 2k Glamour Clear Coating spray can on cowling

Yesterday was an 80 degree day here in Central Florida, so I was able to spray the cowling of a 1990 Evinrude 70hp with SprayMax 2K high gloss Glamour clear coat, 3 coats, after having painted the cowling like 4 months before with Dupli-Color automotive paint. The job looks unreal, super gloss...
