Deja vu I know..... but milky oil on 2006 Nissan 9.8hp 4 stroke

Well just wanted to post a final update on the milky oil, I have used to boat 3 or 4 times since the 3 consecutive oil changes, and there is absolutely no trace of moisture left in the oil now. So I guess water found its way in the oil at some point in time, (I would suspect through the gas tank...

Deja vu I know..... but milky oil on 2006 Nissan 9.8hp 4 stroke

Time for an update: I pulled the carb for a thorough cleaning, put it back on, the motor fired right up ran and idled great, but I saw fuel leaking from the bottom of the carb (while running perfectly mind you)....??? I pulled the fuel line to stop the fuel supply and the leakage stopped almost...

Deja vu I know..... but milky oil on 2006 Nissan 9.8hp 4 stroke

There have been quite a few threads here and elsewhere, reporting that milky oil issue on almost new motors, (9.8hp 4 stroke) but none ever reported what the final findings and.or resolution was.... the closest one to doing it was this one:2017 9.8 4 stroke with water in the oil after 10 hours...

Tach wiring extension for Johnson 50

I tried "electrical systems" but no luck, so I thought I'd try it here.... I bought a tachometer/hour meter for my 50hp Johnson, (the kind that you wrap the wire around the spark plug wire) and because it's a remote motor, I need to extend the length of the wire so I can reach the dash. Can...

    Tach wiring extension

I bought a tachometer/hour meter for my 50hp Johnson, (the kind that you wrap the wire around the spark plug wire) and because it's a remote motor, I need to extend the length of the wire so I can reach the dash. Can this be done without affecting the performance, and what kind of wire should I...

Where is this oil coming from?

2000 Johnson 50hp Model J50PLSSM I noticed 2 leaks, the first one coming from under the power head bottom pan: And the second one from the prop hub housing (looks and smell like unburnt fuel, not gear oil): Thanks for any feedback / advice

The "Joe Reeves Method"..... (ignition timing setting)

I knew Joe was a treasure of this forum, but I didn't know about his international star status.... until I saw a clip from Dangar Marine, this Aussie guy putting out some very nice tutorials on Youtube, and who mentioned that he intended to post a clip about the "Joe Reeves method" for ignition...

    2000 Johnson 50hp Model J50PLSSM

I have recently acquired a runabout powered by this motor, and was wondering if the rough idle/slow speed run was the nature of the beast (it's a 2 cylinder / big bore) or if I should look into some settings to smoothen things out on the low end? Mid range and full throttle runs are a charm...

    Mystery hiccup on 9.9 Evinrude

This is just in an effort to regain my sanity, I thought I would pick the experts' brains to see if anyone can come up with a rational explanation to solve my "hiccup" mystery. I just acquired a 1984 Evinrude, in close to mint condition (pics posted on other thread), and I took it out for a spin...

    Recoil Starter "Sticking"

This is happening on a 1984 Evinrude 9.9, and I was wondering what causes this before taking the thing apart. When pulling the rope it goes all the way out with no problem, but then only comes back maybe a 3rd of the way, recoil gets stuck leaving rope hanging out, then I wiggle the rope a bit...

    2000 Johnson 50hp Model J50PLSSM

Hi folks, I am looking at a cool restored antique (MFG boat from the 60's) that has the motor listed above. Looks like it has very low hours and used in fresh water as I can't seem to find one corrosion spot anywhere inside or out. I am getting confused by some internet posters who own this...

    M18E2 Prop question

I absolutely love my newly acquired M18E2. What a difference in torque and quietness with my older 15hp OMC... and with only about 13 pounds more in weight! There is one thing about these motors (and I had read this here before I believe or on iboat) they are NOT trollers. Which is fine with me...

    M18E2 Carb adjustment question

Tohatsu 18 hp 2 stroke. I just got a hardline tach to check RPM's for adjustments and other purposes, and I was checking the idle specs on the service manual, it says that idle neutral should be 950 RPM and 800 RPM in gear. I'm right on target in neutral but when engaging into gear, if falls to...

    M18e2

Hello, After a long search for a motor that would give me more power than my old Evinrude 9.9hp (bumped to 15hp with carb swap) without adding too much weight for ease of lugging around, I finally pulled the trigger on a 18 hp Tohatsu. The motor is extremely clean, has 120 compression on both...

    2005 Sea Pro 15hp 2 stroke

Hi Mercurers! Just coming for advice as I am considering the motor above to replace my old 9.9 Evinrude on my 13" inflatable. First and foremost, what kind of compression reading should I get to be happy (with the understanding that both cylinders should be within 10% of each other)? 110? 120...
