    Volvo Penta 3.0 hard to steer and play on steering

    I have a 1996 Larson SEi 174 with a 4cyl Volvo penta 3.0 that I have recently acquired. I took it to the lake yesterday and noticed it's really hard to steer and the steering has play on it is this normal? And if not can someone guide me as to how to fix please. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
