    Yamaha/Mariner prop fitment

It’s okay, you can call it a Yamaha. Over the years I’ve put more Yamaha parts on it than Mariner. Yeah, Graham helped me raise this one from the dead. He must be letting you take the easy questions now.😜 I had it out on the water. I’m back up to max rpms, and even got a little over 29 mph, well...

    Yamaha/Mariner prop fitment

I'm writing this for anyone who comes across this searching for the same answers. What I learned is, either my Japanese Mariner prop shaft is identical to a Yamaha F40 or they are completely compatible. In order to use a Yamaha prop on a Mariner, as Haventaclue stated, you need the proper...

    Yamaha/Mariner prop fitment

You’re just the guy I wanted to talk to! I wanted to do a hub too. I have access to a press. I found some hubs on eBay, but can’t find anything to reference what fits what. The whole thing seems like an industry secret. It can’t be that hard; the guys at the prop shop don’t seem like rocket...

    Yamaha/Mariner prop fitment

Thank you for your response havetaclue. So they fit the same; no need to change washers or anything?

1983 Mariner 9.9C water flow issue

I’m not familiar with the model, but it looks like that little crusty hole above the exhaust lines up with that nipple. That tube should come from the exhaust cover, if it’s the tell tale.

Mariner 5 hp 2 stroke water in gear oil

It may be necessary to fill the gear housing with alcohol to remove the old water, and then rinse it out with some clean oil before refilling it. Also, rust is not good for gears. Remember to rub some of the oil between your fingers to feel for metal shavings when draining your old oil.

1983 Mariner 9.9C water flow issue

Try pushing some weed wicker string up the pee hole. Some times spider nests will clog them up, and you won’t get a tell tale stream.

    Yamaha/Mariner prop fitment

I recently spun the prop on my 1979 Mariner 40B outboard, and am currently shopping for a new one. It was a Black Max (extra surface area) 10 1/2 x 13P. It worked perfectly for my rig ; I got 29 mph at a max rpm of 5500. My spare is a Vengeance 10 1/8 x 14P, which I am currently using. It runs...

    Flywheel rubbing on recoil starter

Yesterday I heard a ticking sound coming from under the recoil starter on my 1979 Mariner 40 hp motor. I removed it and found that the recoil starter had been rubbing on the flywheel. it looks like it took quite a bit of material off, as well as, melting the pawl in place. I did have the...

    Magneto Breaker Points

After dewinterizing and warming up my 1978 Mariner 40B (started right up), I gave it a little gas. It started getting some smoke. I gave it a little more and it cleared out. It did this last year, so I moved up to the next hotter plug. It helped a little. I pulled the plugs. Sure enough, they...

    Power Drive steers slowly

I have a 55PD that's 12yrs. old. It steers slowly, now, especially at higher speeds. I've gotten in the habit of reaching down and grabbing the head to give it a little assist at those times. Any way, the out side of the coil cord is all cracked-up and coming off, so I tore down the whole motor...
