    Setting gear handle of 200, 20 hp 1980

    On starting the engine it wants to jump into gear (not every time) the leaver goes into forward very easy but is slightly stiffer going astern. Can you adjust the setting of this leaver ?? "hand lever not remote" so it doesn't want to jump into gear??
