Ok...so I purchased this motor to replace a dead 1987 Evinrude 140... labeled as a Johnson 130...further investigation finds:
1985 Johnson 120 powerhead J120TLCOS
1995 Johnson 130 midsection and carbs J130 TLEOA
So, the motor is cold blooded, and wont stay running at an idle without constant...
Fresh rebuild on the power head...recently took it out for a cruise at the lake:
-WOT across the lake at 5500 RPM = 36 MPH 74 Wellcraft Airslot 185 full fuel and 3 souls on board
-if I pull it down below about 2000 rpm it dies, unless I keep it happy by using the key prime
-if I try to idle...
OK...so just rebuilt the carbs on the 85 120HP...cleaned the carbs with spray carb cleaner and then blew out all the orifices with compressed air. After putting them back together, I read in the service manual that they need to be flushed with isopropyl alcohol??? Do I need to pull them back off...
Just resealed the lower unit after watching several videos from www.dangarmarine.com.
So the unit is back together, using a manual vacuum/pressure pump and the gear oil filler fitting, in the upper hole.
When I use the pump to add pressure or pull a vacuum, it takes lots off pumping...
