    Mercury 225 Optimax Tachometer Problem

    My tach suddenly started reading wrong (high). Nothing was touched, but it had not been used for a couple of months. Says 3500-4000 at idle and goes up to 8000 running. It is not really doing those RPMs. Coincidently my battery went bad. Does the charging system/stator/regulator also...
