Installing Johnson/ Evinrude 115 h.p. Outboard onto Repaired Transom

I should have said earlier that the fracture was on the inside surface of the transom. The boat shop said to install the plate onto the inside surface. The outside surface of the transom might still need some spacers for the mounting bolts.

Installing Johnson/ Evinrude 115 h.p. Outboard onto Repaired Transom

The transom on this Bayliner Cuddy Capri had a fracture and a repair was made by injecting epoxy into the transom and laminating the damaged area with heavy fiberglass mat. A local boat shop in Arizona said that because the transom needed to be repaired, an aluminum plate should be installed...

    Stuck Motor? Stuck Outdrive?

Need to determine what is serviceable and what is repairable. To drop that outdrive, I'm guessing the steering linkage, wiring to the tilt motor, all sterndrive to motor bolts need to be disassembled. Here are a few more photos. I also kind of think that, besides the tilt gear mechanism on...

    Stuck Motor? Stuck Outdrive?

The 302 c.i. motor on this 1975 sterndrive in not turning over and seems stuck. The starter was removed and seems to be perfectly o.k. When parked, the motor and sterndrive were supposedly o.k. The boat was left out in the sun and winter weather for quite a while. The spark plugs were very...

Damage to Deck and Topside Trim on 1975 Sea Ray

My first reaction to the weathering of the trim and deck on this Sea Ray was that a good portion of the wood needed to be lightly sanded and treated with a coat of thinned epoxy. The hatches on the topside of the bow appear to be very damaged and weathered and will need to be replaced. The hatch...

Decarbonizing Motors and Cooling System Repairs

At least they start and idle at the proper temperature now!!! Anyway, a boat shop mechanic told me 50 h.p. is fine for light cruising in that boat. I also got the 85 h.p. Evinrude for a second motor. I doubt you outrank a boat shop supervisor.

Decarbonizing Motors and Cooling System Repairs

Motors were decarbonized with “Star Tron” decarbonizer and cooling systems were repaired. Temps. were read while motors were idling in a 55 gallon barrel of water. Here’s the URL for the online video… https://youtu.be/ao2HyOOQEJM

Low Compression and the Mercury 7.5 h.p. Still Starts and Idles??!!

This is a 1976 Mercury 7.5 h.p. 2 cyl. outboard that read about 50 to 55 p.s.i. on each cylinder. Seems to start and idle o.k. Eventually, I guess it will ultimately fail, and I’ll have to repair or overhaul the motor. Thinking about going to a 1:24 or 1:16 oil to fuel ratio for this motor...

    Evinrude 85 h.p. V-4....Noisy Idle?

I found this motor at a garage sale in Arizona....a 1973 Evinrude 85 h.p. V-4. The flywheel and stator were rusty and had to be cleaned up with WD-40 and fine steel wool. I put the motor on an engine stand and hooked up a water supply. Fuel mix was about 1:40. The outboard fired right up. The...

Installing Mercury 7.5 h.p. Kicker Outboard onto Bayliner

I'd like to install a kicker outboard on my 1985 Bayliner Cuddy boat. The transom motor is a 1972 50 h.p. Evinrude. The kicker motor will be a 1976 7.5. h.p. Mercury outboard. After talking to the local boat shop in Arizona, I decided to place the bracket to one side of the transom. The kicker...

1986 5 h.p. Gamefisher for less than $100....fouled spark plug.

Gamefish....Gamefisher??!! O.K. I suppose I'll go for that... Motor was not seized, overall good condition with original logos, etc. Motor has intact ignition system with spark. Spark plug was fouled and wet?? with water/ oil. Carburetor has significant amount of fine sediment and...

    Repairing deck on fiberglass motorboat.

The hull fuel tank is o.k. It made it to about 4 psi. Here are photos of the deck repair. Two cross beams had to be replaced with new exterior plywood.

Installing Steering Anchor for Early 70's Evinrude 50 h.p. Outboard

Since my Evinrude 85 h.p. V-4 is still being repaired, I installed a backup outboard, a 1972 50 h.p. Evinrude, onto my 19' Bayliner Cuddy boat. The 50 h.p. outboard does not have a tilt/ steering tube, therefore, a steering cable anchor will need to be installed onto the transom. Can I...
