Born and raised in "deep south" rural Mississippi, in and by an old-fashioned culture valuing hard work, personal integrity, responsibility, independent thought, fellowship, and family.

My father was a professional automotive technician, retiring in my adulthood. I spent my youth next to him in shops and underneath vehicles. The smells of oil and gasoline and the sounds of tools and air compressors are powerfully nostalgic for me. He imprinted onto me many of his skills; not with the expectation that I would follow him in his trade, but that I would use those as lessons as life skills. Consequently, he is directly responsible for my successful career as a software engineer/architect.

My mother was fiercely strong, powerful, and graceful. She stood both by her husband and family, as well as on her own two feet. From her I learned love, compassion, and leadership.

As the (proud) father of my own two sons, I hope they come to look up to me as I look up to my parents. It is my goal to successfully pass my heritage on to them.
