Checked a 1967 Johnson 6 hp. Has the same hole same position. Possibly pressure relief, balance or drain.

    Spark plug wire?

What would be the best grade, type etc. Of 7mm spark plug wire replacement for the 6 and 9.5 hp motors. The wires are always under flex with any twist of the throttle and obviously take a lot of stress with heat and constant vibration. Input most appreciated. Thanks

Using timing fixture on 1964 9.5 evinrude

Why not compliment the refurbishment by replacing the head gasket. It appears in your pic that some corrosion is accumulating at the gasket seam. I replace the gasket on my 9.5. Quite simple and good insurance on a Aged motor. Torque values and bolt sequence tightening can be found in service...

    What is decarbing ?

I have used Hoppes #9 rifle barrel cleaner to remove the baked on carbon from the head and piston tops. Brush on let soak wipe off. Repeat if needed. Melts that carbon right off.

    Recoil starter issue?

I removed the spring and pressed the two legs inward to add more tension. Cleaned the spring groove on the pinion gear. Now works better than ever. The slightest pull on the starter rope and the gear will start its climb up the spool. Thanks Racer for your help. 😁🥂

    Recoil starter issue?

1975 Johnson 6 hp. I have to pull the starter rope out quickly to have the pinion gear travel up the spool to engage the flywheel. If I pull at a slower rate the pinion gear will stay at the bottom position. I have four other 6 hp Johnson motors of varied years. The slightest slowest pull of...

1977 6HP EVINRUDE DIES AT HIGH SPEED

I believe it is possible for condensers to heat and fail. They can break down over time.

    Gear Case Pressure Test

Johnson 1965 6 hp. Foamy gear oil at end of season. I would like to do a pressure test to find where the leak is. I did replace the bearing seal and gear case seal. Still leaked. At this time I would think that the shift rod o ring is the suspect. I put together a pressure tester I cobbled...
