The piece you want to add is called a strainer...made by GROCO, PERKO, and several others...you apy for quality components so don't get a "cheap"

If so.... the Vortec intake manifold gasket system is superior to the earlier styles.
Just the opposite...if the primary winding is shorted to the case, the coil won't fire if the case is grounded.
