My 9.8 started making a regular slow clicking noise I think from the lower unit. It's timing changes with the revs but I would guess it's a click
Plus the spark occurs half as many times as a 2-stroke engine.
4357640 thru 4576236 were 1976 models - follow the fuel line from the disconnect and it should go into a pump on the side of the block if not it will
My guess is a 1976 model.
Before you destroy that motor read these pages on prop theory: the motor should not exceed 5500 rpms.
