" I have a 1983 chrylser 115 model # 1158H3F, with a Prestolite Magnapower III, Type III ignition system, and wanted to verify the accuracy of the boat tachometer. I used a tiny tach model TT226-NR-1C that is for twin cylinder engines with a spark firing every 180 degrees of the engine crank shaft. To my surprise both the boat tach and the tiny tach were within 100 rpms at 1000 rpm operation. Does this model of chrylser motor fire each cylinder twice per revolution?? I am operating the boat in Colorado at about 6000 feet, with a 19 pitch prop, and have hit the boat tach maximum of 6000 rpm's, but I wanted to lower the pitch of the prop to 15 so I can use the boat for skiing.
