While going down the lake the

While going down the lake the motor lost power and made loud knocking sounds. Once i got to the docks i found small fragments of metal on left side of motor casing(facing motor from behind) and saw a small hole in metal casing close to the bottom. Does anyone know what the problem might be and what i can do to repair the motor myself.

My friend has a mercury motor that needs a lower unit he has had to replace the lower unit before. And the motor is turning into a frankenstein piece (96 powerhead, 83 mid and 3rd replacement lower unit). Please email me if your looking to sell that moter. [email protected]"
