" When replacing the exhaust elbow/riser (s) on a FWC ( full system )crusader 454XL , is it necessary to drain the raw water cooled elbow/riser and the FWC exhaust manifold before removing the old elbow/riser (s)? My concern is any raw water or coolant escaping down the exhaust passage of the manifold. My setup doesn't have a spacer between the manifold and the elbow.

I am in the middle of having

I am in the middle of having my manifolds and risers replaced on my fresh water cooled Merc Cruiser 454s and the mechanic did drain the anti freeze from the manifolds before removing the risers. Because the boat is winterized I don't think salt water in the risers was an issue but if the boat was commissioned it would have been.
