" I have a '63 Bertram with twin AQ145B/Penta 290 drives. My question is, the motors are pretty rotten. I have several options but one that I am really interested in is saving the outdrives and powering with new Mercrusier 3.0L 4 cylinders. Does anyone in here have an idea of what it would take to do that? Are the bell housings the same? Shaft? etc.? Or should I look into rebuilding the AQ145Bs?

AN ACT OF GOD. I RECOMMEND REBUILDING THE OLD ONES. AS FAR AS I KNOW V/P NEVER PUT A 3.0 IN A BOAT. BY THE TIME YOU GET DON RETROFITTING IT WILL COST QUITE A BIT MORE.
