" Just picked up a boat with a 1978 150hp merury that was not running. Compression on each cylinder is about 105. Cranking good, but no fuel is getting to the carberators. I rebuilt the fuel pump and fuel is pumping through pump and fuel filter, but thats were I think it is stopping. Pulled the plugs and they were somewhat dry. Any suggestions, and is it bad to crank the engine like this (no fuel no oil). "

" George, On my 1977 150HP Merc, there is a screen filter on each carb where the brass fitting joins the aluminum carb casting. It is removed or cleaned by tacking out the two float bowl screws, removing the float bowl cover, removing the fuel line and brass hose fitting. Look into the threaded area where the fuel line fitting was installed to see the screen. My carbs are the "Backdraft" style, and yours may be different, but I will wager there is still a screen there somewhere. Also these screens did clog up once for me. "
