Have a 1974 Mercury 4.5 Hp Ou

Have a 1974 Mercury 4.5 Hp Outboard motor in excellent shape. We used it a lot last fishing season and now it won't turn over. What could be some of the simple reasons for it not starting?

" Check the spark. Also check the carb. Was old fuel left in the carb? If so, you will have to remove the carb and clean or rebuild it. It may be gummed up.

" Won't spin or won't fire? If it doesn't spin over it might be alittle rusted up with maybe condesation. Maybe a little oil in the spark plug hole would loosen it up. If it still doesn't turn over, do more research and/or take it in to a shop,,, "
