They have been pretty reliable so far but the bearings that go throught the transom sheild for the steering assembly seem to wear out prematurely. On most high performance boats with Merc outdrives I have noticed a tie bar connected to the outer end of the outdrives, just above the exhaust. Is this advisable on these outdrives, and if so, where can I purchase a kit if one exists? "
