Have a 1984 Merc 150hp motor that must be taken off boat to replace steering cable. Where can an eyebolt be attached to the motor to have it lifted?

The safest way is a special lifting tool that is screwed into the center of the flywheel. You might be able to rent/borrow one from your local Mercury mechanic.
 
The lifting eye is available

The lifting eye is available from any Mercury Dealer. It cost about $35.00. It screws into the threads in the center of the flywheel. It is a good thing to have if you ever need to remove the outboard again.
