" I own a Johnson 150hp outboard on a Grady 19' Tournament.I have some dificulty planing out and am considering a hydrofoil as a solution to this problem.
My question is,do these hydrofoils put exess stress on the cavitation plate possibly cracking or breaking it over time?
Any help and input would be appreciate
Thanks in advance Tmon "

" Tmon,

There is no doubt that hydrofoils put more stress on the cavition plate. Some engines have a cavition plate that is strong enough for this, others do not.

I prefer placing some ballast in the bow. Sometimes you can achieve this by rearranging the things you are already carrying, so as not to increase the weight, but a few pounds won't really matter very much.
