" Hi
One of the ignition coil

" Hi
One of the ignition coils on my Johnson 55, 2 cylinder, is dripping a brown gluey substance onto the head cover. It is the stuff that the coil seems to be set in its casing with. On the other coil, this stuff is like a hard plastic, but on the one in question, it's like bubblegum!

The engine isn't overheating, and the coil isn't even warm to the touch when the engine is running. I asked my local repair shop, and the haven't heard of anything like it before. They said usually, the plastic goes hard and cracks when the coil is shot. They said it may be a manufacturing fault.

Has anyone on here heard of anything like this hapening before?

Although the engine is running fine, I'm going to replace the coil anyway, as the dripping can't be right. Before I replace the coil, is there anything that could be causing this "melting" around the edge of the ignition coil? Also, is it O.K to replace one coil, or should the pair be replaced?

Thanks in advance
Steve
