"Replaced fuel pump, spark plugs and oil boat ran great. Next trip out it died and there was a sheen of oil behind, no oil showing on dipstick.
The engine block had been replaced before we bought it and it had sat for a while (it was winterized last winter). Any ideas where the oil went??"

"It may help to advise what engine and drive you have etc.

It could be the usual places like thru the rings or head gaskets, but since it seems they should be new (still no guarantee there isnt a problem, but less likely) the oil could have gotten into the cooling water thru the oil cooler.

Since sea water and oil both are pushed thru the cooler if it gets an internal leak one can leak into the other.

I have a friend who installed a new gm marine base engine, and a new cooler too, but still is trying to locate where all the oil is going, and if its not leaking into the bilge, or being burned into a cloud of smoke out the exhaust it can be tough to locate.

Did you measure how many qts low it was?

Its not uncommon for a marine engine to be a little low after an oil change if it wasnt done properly, and that could account for approx a qt of what is showing as missing. Many times the oil that will fill the oil lines and filter are not taken into account, and the engine isnt run before cheking the stick etc.

Hopefully you can find it as it can be a pain to locate."
