"I have a Yamaha 40 Precision

"I have a Yamaha 40 Precision Blend outboard. I bought new NGK spark plugs and need the gap measurements. In trying to locate this information, I became frustrated even trying to figure out what year the engine might be. I've owned the boat & engine for about 5 years and vaguely remember the seller telling me it was a late 80's. The model is 40 ESRP, Code 6H4S."

"I just had a 1987 40HP Yamaha precision blend given to me. (if I can remove it from the boat)
My question is how do I remove the steering cables from the motor? I've unscrewed the nuts at each side of the motor/ The cable still seems to be in there pretty tight. Do I just wiggle the cables out? Or do I have to unscrew something else? I'd like to use the old parts,as they seem to be working OK. Also, this motor has been sitting outside, not winterized, any suggestions on what to do before I try to get it to run? Flywheel moves very easily.
Thanks"
